The Patio Group To Open Three New Eateries At Downtown's New Hotel Republic San Diego

September 11, 2017

The Patio Group, which currently operates many eateries around San Diego, is partnering with the new Hotel Republic San Diego (formerly W Hotel) to launch three new dining concepts within the urban resort property.

Gina Champion-Cain's The Patio Group has been busy since launching its first venture - The Patio on Lamont - in 2012. The company now operates eateries all around San Diego, including The Patio on Goldfinch, Fireside by The Patio, Havest by The Patio, Saska's Steakhouse, Bao Beach, Swell Coffee, two locations of Surf Rider Pizza Cafe (with a La Mesa outpost on the way), and numerous outposts of the quick-service market The Patio Express.

The former W Hotel at 421 West B Street in downtown San Diego (previously Renaissance San Diego) is now Hotel Republic San Diego, a boutique luxury property by the Rockpoint Group that is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and managed by HEI Hotels & Resorts. As part of Bluemotif Architectures $9.5 million ongoing renovation of the 19-story building to give it a beach/coastal design, the culinary side of the project will be developed by The Patio Group, who will open three different dining components within the 285-room hotel.

Hotel Republic will offer a fast-casual restaurant Patio Marketplace that will take over the former Kelvin dining room and open for three meals per day, a cocktail bar and upscale restaurant named Trade in the lobby area, and a rooftop dining lounge called Topside Terrace Kitchen & Bar, where the pool will be removed from the rooftop as part of the redesign. The Patio Group's Chef de Cuisine Amol Thanky, who previously worked at San Francisco's St. Regis Hotel and Restaurant Gary Danko, will oversee all the hotel's culinary operations. Expect the eateries to debut by Spring 2018.
