SuperNatural Sandwiches To Open Location In San Diego's Pacific Beach

May 4, 2018

After recently unveiling mini-outposts in Santa Ana's 4th Street Market and Tijuana's newly opened Telefónica Gastropark Country Club as well as plans for a full-scale restaurant in San Diego's Little Italy, sea-to-sandwich sensation SuperNatural Sandwiches has revealed plans to open a branch in Pacific Beach, taking over the space that previously housed Nom Nom Bento.

"Our slogan is 'from sea to sandwiches', but now we're bringing our sandwiches to the sea!" exclaimed SuperNatural Sandwiches co-founder Anthony Tran.

Founders Tony Nguyen and Anthony Tran, along with partner Jeremy Chen, will soon be taking over the quaint 1,100-square-foot storefront at 4658 Mission Boulevard that last housed the short-lived Nom Nom Bento. The space will undergo a quick conversion with small changes to transform it into the latest installment of SuperNatural Sandwiches, with hopes of opening at some point this June. Being that the interior and kitchen are a bit smaller than their flagship Miramar eatery, SuperNatural will serve a limited menu, curtailing it for the beach crowd. There will be a rotating list of seafood sandwiches, including the new "Kaiju" Cantonese Lobster Roll, as well as chowder, fries, iced tea, soft drinks and agua fresca.  Pacific Beach will be also be the exclusive home to the "Jaeger" salt and pepper calamari sandwich - an ode to the famous salt and pepper chicken wings of Chinese restaurant infamy, as well as see the debut of a Korean-meets-Nashville-style deep fried chicken sandwich.

Beginning in 2012, the "sea to sandwich" approach took SuperNatural Sandwiches from a hot commodity at local farmer's markets to its own brick-and-mortar eatery in Miramar, which has been packing the house since opening in 2014. The brainchild of Tony Nguyen, SuperNatural has been using fresh seafood and ingredients from local vendors to create a lineup of made-to-order, gourmet concoctions that have caused the restaurant to quickly gain a reputation for offering some of the most delicious sandwiches in town. SuperNatural Sandwiches entered California's Orange County earlier this year with the opening of a stall within the 4th Street Market food hall in downtown Santa Ana. Last month, the company installed Supernatural Cocina at the newly opened Telefonica Gastropark Country Club Hiprodomo. SuperNatural is also in the process of opening a restaurant location in the new AV8 Building of luxury apartments being constructed at 2155 Kettner Boulevard in Little Italy.
