Ice Cream Sensation Salt & Straw To Open North County San Diego Outpost

June 12, 2018

Adding to the already amazing lineup of food vendors and restaurants installing within Carmel Valley's ambitious One Paseo mixed-used community is the second San Diego branch of Salt & Straw, the iconic Portland-based scoop shop that has been lining up patrons since debuting its first local branch in Little Italy late last year.

Founded in 2011 by Kim Malek and her cousin Tyler, a culinary school graduate who is the mastermind behind the ice cream, Salt & Straw now has more than 10 locations that always have people lining up to get a taste of the rotating menu of small-batch ice cream in unique flavors (more than 300 made so far) that are made with seasonal produce and local creams. The modern ice cream parlor currently has 9 locations - one in San Francisco, five in Los Angeles, and three in Portland - with another branch currently underway in Seattle.

Salt & Straw will add to an exciting lineup of eateries that have been handpicked to join the 23-acre One Paseo retail, office and living complex, including a branch of Chef Michael Mina's International Smoke restaurant, Tocaya Organica, Sweetfin Poké, Ways & Means Oyster House, Shake Shack, Parakeet Café, Tender Greens, Joe & The Juice, The Butchery market, and Fox Restaurant Concepts' North Italia. This will be the company's first entrance into such a mixed-use environment. The space will offer more than 1,300 square-foot of interior space with ample outdoor seating within many public spaces located around the complex.

The retail portion of the One Paseo project, including restaurants, is expected to be completed by December 2018, with residential units ready for move in during Spring 2019.
