Heading into the building that currently houses D Street Bar & Grill in Encinitas is the second location of Home & Away, a sports bar and eatery that first opened in 2015 in San Diego's Old Town.
From owners Jonathan Frank and Dennis O'Connor, who is also the guy behind Thorn Brewery, Home & Away is a sports bar and gastropub that first launched at 2222 San Diego Avenue in Old Town in February 2015. In addition to a tavern-style menu of wings, tacos, burgers, sandwiches and barbecue, as well as a full bar and rotating tap list, Home & Away offers an array of board games, video games, pinball machines, giant Jenga, table tennis, darts and foosball.
Home & Away's second location will soon move into the space where D Street Bar & Grill is currently operating at 485 South Coast Highway 101 in the heart of downtown Encinitas. This location will replicate the style and menu offerings of the original, with a gastropub menu, full liquor license and plenty of games and flat-screen televisions. After a remodel, the bar & restaurant hopes to open by early 2019.
