Phil's BBQ Closes In Point Loma For $1Million+ Renovation

January 3, 2019

San Diego's iconic barbecue destination shuttered its flagship location yesterday for a six-week overhaul. Phil's BBQ Point Loma is expected to reopen in mid-February.

Phil’s BBQ, which was founded by Phil Pace in San Diego's Mission Hills neighborhood in 1998 (that restaurant relocated to Point Loma in 2007), closed the doors yesterday to its branch at 3750 Sports Arena Boulevard. The $1.25 million renovation will include expanding the dining and bar areas, adding new high-definition televisions and other interior upgrades. Phil's BBQ outposts in San Marcos, Santee, Rancho Bernardo, and inside Terminal 2 of San Diego International Airport remain open.

"We’re committed to re-investing in our restaurants to make sure we continually offer guests the best and most up to date dining experience," explained owner Phil Pace. "More than one million customers walk through the Phil’s BBQ Point Loma doors per year - it was time for an upgrade."

To promote and celebrate the renovation, Phil’s BBQ has launched a "Shutdown Sweepstakes" contest where people can enter for a chance to win prizes including a grand prize of $2,500 in cash plus a $2,500 gift card. Also, during the renovation, Phil’s other locations (except the airport) will offer all-day happy hours.
