The Team Behind Crab Hut To Open KingFisher Modern Vietnamese In San Diego's Golden Hill

April 24, 2019

The founders of San Diego's Crab Hut chain of Cajun seafood restaurants are currently in the process of opening a new concept in Golden Hill. Currently in the development phase is Kingfisher, a modern Vietnamese seafood-focused restaurant with a full cocktail bar installing in the 3,000 square foot space that last housed Kafe Sobaka Restoran Pomegranate.

Kim Phan, Ky Phan and Quan Le opened the first Crab Hut locations in Kearny Mesa in 2007, then followed up with outposts in Downtown San Diego and Mira Mesa. The trio will now turn their attention on the opening of a new concept based around social dining.

Kingfisher will offer a design from Ocio Design Group and a menu based around upscale shareable plates from Chef Ky Phan. Although the menu is still very much in development, expect a global influence with heavy nods to French/Vietnamese styles and dishes prepared with fresh local ingredients. The restaurant will also offer an expansive menu of craft cocktails from beverage director David Tye, who previously worked at The Lion's Share, Prohibition and Sycamore Den.

Kingfisher is expected to open by late summer/fall at 2469 Broadway in San Diego's Golden Hill.
