After Closing Two San Diego Locations Earlier This Year, Los Panchos To Open Huge Hillcrest Bar & Restaurant

April 23, 2019

Los Panchos recently shuttered their downtown San Diego location after almost two decades, as well as their Hillcrest branch, but the Mexican eatery recently took over the space last occupied by Brazen BBQ for a new, full-service outpost set to open later this year.

After 16 years in San Diego's Gaslamp, Los Panchos De Charly closed in January 2019. Opened at 431 E Street in downtown San Diego in September 2003 by Carlos Diaz-Ochoa, Los Panchos Mexican Grill & Cantina became Los Panchos de Charly after Luis & Veronica Diaz took over operations in April 2012. Los Panchos was forced to shutter after the landlord attempted to double the rent. Another Los Panchos branch in Hillcrest also closed earlier this year to pave the way for a new Dunkin' Donuts location. There is also a Los Panchos outpost in the Del Cerro area of San Diego.

Los Panchos will soon revive on the corner of 5th and Washington in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood in the 4,500+ square-foot indoor/outdoor building that last housed Brazen BBQ. The new restaurant will have a menu similar to what was offered at the downtown San Diego location. Expect a large variety of appetizers, combo platters, quesadillas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chile rellenos, fajitas, Mexican entrees, soups, salads, and desserts, as well as a full bar with margaritas, Micheladas, beer, sangria and wine.

Los Panchos de Charly hopes to open at 441 Washington Street in San Diego's Hillcrest community by year's end. For more information, visit lospanchosdecharly.com.
