Bayside Kitchen + Bar Replaces Pacific Standard At Little Italy's Hilton Bayside

June 11, 2019

Now open within the Hilton Bayside Campus space that last housed Pacific Standard Coastal Kitchen is Bayside Kitchen + Bar, a casual restaurant serving a menu of Southern California-inspired fare.

Located on the outskirts of San Diego’s trendy Little Italy neighborhood within Hilton Bayside Campus, home to Hilton Garden Inn San Diego Downtown and Homewood Suites by Hilton San Diego Downtown, Bayside Kitchen + Bar offers a relaxed setting where travelers and locals alike can enjoy a menu of casual all-day offerings, a creative bar menu, and indoor and outdoor dining.

Imagined by Costa Mesa-based Studio McCormack, the look and feel of the new Bayside Kitchen + Bar marries the quirky charm of the 1950’s, inspired by the building’s original Fat City façade, with the laid-back beach town spirit for which California’s southernmost city is known. Upon entering, eyes are drawn to the restaurant’s focal point, an expansive bar wrapped in a mosaic of deep blue tile reflecting the familiar hues of the nearby Pacific Ocean and Bay. An extended bar area features open seating and two large communal tables, each with seating for up to 12 to accommodate larger groups, or to encourage social dining.

Inside the restaurant, old blends with new through the addition of whimsical mid-century modern furnishings in a contemporary color palette of cool blues and greys, with warm wood tones and the occasional pop of vibrant chartreuse. In addition to traditional bar and dining room seating, an adjacent "Living Room" area offers guests an opportunity to drink and dine in comfortable leather sofas and stylish accent chairs surrounded by book shelves and art pieces; an environment meant to encourage guests to relax and stay a while, just like at home. An abundance of unique artwork captures the essence of San Diego with a gallery of images depicting beaches, lifeguard towers and surfboards.

In addition to a variety of indoor dining options, Bayside Kitchen + Bar also takes advantage of San Diego’s perfect weather with a host of outdoor seating. A front patio flows seamlessly into the hotel’s courtyard featuring casual sofa seating and a large central fire table. The space features a selection of interactive games including foosball, shuffleboard and giant Jenga, and is available for private events of up to 30 guests.

Chef Joseph Cotillon, who previously led kitchens at Jamul Casino and Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, was tapped as Executive Chef to oversee menu development and kitchen operations. Chef Cotillon worked in tandem with Florida-based Next Hospitality Advisors to develop a menu of Southern California-inspired comfort foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition to a daily breakfast buffet serving traditional American favorites, there is also a variety of signature early-morning a la carte items. Bayside Kitchen also boasts a 10-for-10 lunch menu, with everything on the menu priced at just $10. The All-Day menu includes a selection of salads, burgers and sandwiches, in addition to signature entrees.

Bayside Kitchen + Bar is located in the Hilton Bayside Hotel Complex at 2137 Pacific Highway in downtown San Diego and is now open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. Hours are Sunday through Friday from 6am to 10 pm, and Saturday from 6am to 3am. "Happy Hour and a Half" takes place every day from 4-5:30 pm, featuring a variety of discounted appetizers and drinks.
