Bahn Thai has been a San Diego dining destination for authentic Thai cuisine since opening its quaint eatery in University Heights in 2011, but the family-run restaurant will soon expand with a 3,200 second location unveiling in Hillcrest this summer.
Opened by Paul & Jinda Srimuang in September 2011, Bahn Thai will soon open a second San Diego location in the prime Hillcrest space last occupied by Babycakes Bakery, which relocated last spring. The new restaurant will be designed by Lahaina Architects to honor the history of the building, which was originally a small family home. There will be two patio areas and unique elements like a spiral staircase in the interior courtyard and a wood trellis along the front of the building. Allowing husband-and-wife chefs Sam & Kate to greatly expand their output, a fully renovated kitchen will be equipped to handle in-house demand as well as the eatery's substantial daily take-out orders.
Bahn Thai's second location is expected to open as early as this July at 3766 5th Avenue in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. In the meantime, visit the original branch at 4646 Park Boulevard in University Heights. For more information, visit bahnthai.net.
