Fair Favorite Chicken Charlie's FryBQ To Close Flagship San Diego Restaurant

October 9, 2019

San Diego's king of gluttonous fair food, Chicken Charlie's has announced the impending closure of its five-year-old flagship Clairemont "FryBQ" location.

From founder Charlie Boghosian, Chicken Charlie's built a cult following over the course of its nearly three decades as an area fair vendor known for its deep fried oddities before opening its first brick-and-mortar eatery, Chicken Charlie’s FryBQ, at 5407 Balboa Avenue, Suite 460, in San Diego's Clairemont neighborhood in 2014. A larger, full-service second location of Chicken Charlie's, dubbed "The Table", opened last year at 12457 Rancho Bernardo Road in the space that last housed BernardO Restaurant in Rancho Bernardo. The North County restaurant will remain in business.

"What an awesome five years it has been, but we made a decision not to extend our lease," read a Facebook post announcing the closure. "We will be opening a new location very soon so please stay tune. In the meantime, there's six days left for you to come join us at this location and have some of the awesome food we’ve been serving.

Chicken Charlie's will shutter its Clairemont branch after close of business on Monday, October 14. The restaurant will operate under normal hours until then. For more information on Chicken Charlie's, visit chickencharlies.com.
