Ocean Beach's Newport Pizza & Ale House Set To Shutter At Month's End

October 1, 2019

An Ocean Beach staple for East Coast pizza for 35 years and one of San Diego's original craft beer bars,  Newport Pizza & Ale House will shutter at month's end with hopes of resurrecting at a new space.

Owner Mike Tajran opened Newport Pizza in the heart of San Diego's Ocean Beach in 1984, offering a selection of NY-style pizza with cheeky names. The following year, he obtained a beer and wine license and began what became a craft beer obsession, securing hard to find micro-brews for patrons to enjoy. In June 2016 after 8 years of development, Tajran took his beer passion to the next level with the unveiling of OB Brewery across the street from his flagship pizzeria.

Due to issues renewing its lease at 5050 Newport Avenue, Newport Pizza & Ale House will be forced to close up shop at month's end. Ownership is actively seeking a new location and hoping to make an announcement soon once something is secured.
