After Recent Purchase, Rosie O'Gradys Is Staying Irish In Normal Heights

November 7, 2019

A clerical error caused a liquor license application to sit in Rosie O'Gradys window for three days indicating the restaurant was changing names, but the 36-year-old Normal Heights Irish bar will stay as-is but with the addition of a new Chicago-themed food menu.

We reported earlier that Rosie O’Grady’s new ownership Social Syndicate, who purchased the business this past summer, had filed a liquor license application to change its name to La Dona, a concept the company is currently installing at the former Nati's space in Ocean Beach. It turns out confusion caused the wrong name to be listed on the application for the Normal Heights property, and ownership did not realize as it hung on the outside of the building since Monday of this week.

Rosie O'Gradys will actually stay a Chicago-style Irish bar, as it has been since it first opened in 1983. Social Syndicate Corporate Chef Craig Jiminez has been working on a concise menu of Windy City-inspired dishes to unveil in the near future, and Rosie O’Grady’s Music Director Jason Rammelsberg will continue booking live bands for frequent performances.

Social Syndicate is also in the process of bringing a new bar & restaurant concept to Del Mar Plaza, moving into the sprawling space that last housed Epazote. Construction for the 5,600 square-foot indoor and outdoor venue kicked-off in November 2018, with doors anticipated to open by year's end. Dubbed Monarch Ocean Pub, the new restaurant will be located on the top floor of the plaza with views of coastal Del Mar and the Pacific Ocean, as well as a beer garden adjacent to the restaurant that will offer live music and entertainment. San Diego native Craig Jimenez, in his role as company culinary director, will be overseeing the menu development at the new concept, which will be based around shareable options made with area ingredients. San Diego’s Tecture Design and Fabrication, who collaborated with Social Syndicate on Blue Water Ocean Beach and Ocean Beach’s Sunset Plaza, has been signed on to lead the design of Monarch Ocean Pub, as well as the La Doña location in OB.
