Two Years In The Making, The Balboa Bar & Grill Aims To Unveil In Chula Vista This Weekend

December 2, 2019

More than two years in the making, San Diego's popular burger and cocktail destination The Balboa Bar & Grill is almost ready to unveil its second location on Third Avenue in Chula Vista.

Opened by Bonita-native Tom Logsdon in early 2015, who was previously operating underground burger-centric Doods Food in the bar that was last located at 1863 5th Avenue in the same Banker Hill space, The Balboa quickly became known as one of the top burger spots in San Diego. In July 2017, Logsdon announced a second location was in the works for Chula Vista.

"I'm very excited to be bringing The Balboa to the community I grew up in," said Logson. "There are great things going on in Chula Vista and I'm proud to be part of that."

Aiming to open this coming weekend in the approximately 4,000 square-foot space at 290 Third Avenue in downtown Chula Vista that last housed a deli and beauty salon, The Balboa South hopes to receive its beer & wine license this week with the goal of obtaining a full liquor license as soon as possible. The menu will be nearly identical to the original location, centered around perfectly cooked flat-top burgers and fries, with additional items possibly to be added after the business is up and running. The Balboa South will also have a pool table and several televisions airing the current sporting events.

The Balboa Bar & Grill hopes to soft open in Chula Vista as early as this Saturday, December 7, for the Starlight Parade. For more information, visit thebalboabarandgrill.com.
