McCormick & Schmick's Closes In Downtown San Diego

January 1, 2020

The McCormick & Schmick’s location inside the Omni Hotel in downtown San Diego closed unexpectedly today after hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration just last night.

Founded in Portland, OR, in 1979 by Bill McCormick & Douglas Schmick, McCormick & Schmick's is a seafood and steakhouse chain with more than 35 location that is now owned by Landry's, Inc., which also owns such restaurant chains as Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Claim Jumper, and Morton's The Steakhouse, among other.

We reached out to Landry's corporate for information about the reason behind the sudden closure of the nearly 20-year-old San Diego location of McCormick & Schmick's, but the company explained that it does not release such information. The space at 675 L Street at the base floor of Omni Hotel has been rebranded into West Coast Social and will stay open for bar service with a menu of small shareable plates before eventually closing to become a new event space. All employees were released by Landry Inc. and the new bar is now operated by Omni Hotel employees.
