Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers Ends Run In Downtown San Diego To Usher In New Concept In Partnership With Good Time Design

October 23, 2020

After months of speculation, it is official, Arizona-based Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers has ended its run in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, although the concept's ownership is partnering with the building's new tenant Good Time Design hospitality group to install what is rumored to be a new Cerveza Jack's Mexican cantina and restaurant in the downtown space.

In early 2016, Arizona-based Square One Concepts (which also has ownership interest in Pacific Beach Shore Club and Bootlegger) took over the 5,400 square-foot Gaslamp Quarter space that long housed Acqua al 2 to open a location of the company's Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers sports bar concept. A second area outpost of Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers opened in Carlsbad last year, but that space recently sold and will become a second Le Papagayo

The building at 322 5th Avenue that houses Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers was recently leased by Ty Hauter, who founded local restaurant group Good Time Design (Bub's At The Ballpark, The Blind Burro, Moonshine Flats) in 2006. Hauter will partner with Square One Concepts founder S. Barrett Rinzler for a new concept, rumored to be a second area outpost of Cerveza Jack's, a modern Mexican restaurant & cantina that first launched in San Diego's Pacific Beach in early 2015 and replicated in Nashville, TN, in 2016. We have reached out to Hauter and Rinzler for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

Cerveza Jack's is expected to open in the Gaslamp Quarter in December. For more information, visit goodtimedesignsd.com.
