Ataraxia Aleworks To Open In Former Circle 9 Brewing Space In San Diego's Kearny Mesa

January 6, 2021

Opening soon in the industrial space that last housed Circle 9 Brewing for more than 3 years is Ataraxia Aleworks, a new craft brewery from a longtime Ballast Point brewer.

Ataraxia Aleworks is the product of San Diego natives and trained engineers Daren Rudy and Alex Kim, who have long aspired to open their own brewery. Daren has over 12 years brewing experience, previously working for San Diego-born Ballast Point Brewing, and will serve as the company's brewer and Chief Operations Officer. Alex has worked as an engineer and an information technology officer for the past decade and will be the CEO and "frontman" of Ataraxia.

At the end of 2020, the founders of Ataraxia, which stands for "tranquility" in ancient Greek, purchased the 2,000 square-foot brewery previously occupied by Circle 9 Brewing since 2017. The craft brewery hopes to open by April 2021 with a lineup of craft beers brewed with an emphasis on water quality. Located less than 2 blocks from Kearny Mesa’s Convoy Street, the business park suite features a 160 square-foot cold box leading to a dozen taps, as well as a 3.5 barrel brewing system and a tasting room with multiple televisions. Once open, Ataraxia Aleworks will feature an array of food trucks and caterers to provide patrons with dine in options.

Ataraxia Aleworks aims to open by this spring at 7292 Opportunity Road, Suite C, in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. For more information, visit ataraxiaaleworks.com.
