Popular Italian Restaurant BIGA Clears Out Of Downtown San Diego

February 12, 2021

We have received word that once popular Italian restaurant BiGA has liquidated its space on Broadway in downtown San Diego after a 5 year tenure.

BiGA was founded in December 2015 by Culinary Institute of America graduate Tae Dickey. Located on the corner of 6th Avenue and Broadway in downtown San Diego, the restaurant specialized in scratch-made pizza, pasta and other Italian fare. During the course of its half decade run, the 92-seat, 3,700-square-foot eatery became a destination in an otherwise difficult area of downtown.

We received word that the space occupied by BiGA at 950 Sixth Avenue has been all but cleared out, with ownership selling some restaurant equipment. Prior to closing BiGA this past fall, Dickey was signed on to provide food at the onsite food pavilion at The Shell, San Diego Symphony's new permanent outdoor venue on the San Diego Bay. There is no word yet on whether BiGA plans to reopen in a new location or whether they will still be part of The Shell project. We reached out to Tae Dickey several times but never received a response.
