Din Tai Fung To Open Location Inside San Diego's Petco Park

May 10, 2021

The 60-year-old Taiwanese dumpling empire Din Tai Fung will soon open a location within Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.

Originally founded in Taipei, Taiwan as a cooking oil retail business in 1958, Din Tai Fung eventually became a steamed dumpling and noodle restaurant in 1972. Today, the highly-lauded chain of eateries has branches in Japan, the United States, South Korea, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Thailand. In 1993, the New York Times rated Din Tai Fung as one of the top ten gourmet restaurants in the world and in 2010, the Hong Kong branch was awarded its first Michelin star. Din Tai Fung opened its first San Diego location within Westfield UTC mall in La Jolla in October 2018.

Din Tai Fung will open a stand in the coming weeks at Section 106 inside Petco Park ballpark in downtown San Diego, joining other newcomer eateries for the 2021 season like Grand Ole BBQ, Barrio Dogg, and Puesto. The eatery will serve a reduced menu from its full-scale restaurants with options like the popular xiao long bao dumplings, also known as soup dumplings, fried rice, spicy wontons, sweet and sour baby back ribs, stuffed steamed buns, and boba milk tea. Padres also featured Din Tai Fung during select 2020 drive-in events such as concerts and postseason watch parties.
