Over the weekend, Italian-born Luigi Agostini unveiled the fourth outpost of his popular NYC-style Pizzeria Luigi restaurant in the space last occupied by Bravo's Mexican Bistro & Cantina in San Diego's Ocean Beach.
First opened in 2004, Pizzeria Luigi has come to be known as one of the top New York City-style pizza parlors in San Diego. It's locations in North Park & Golden Hill have gained a loyal following, even appearing more than once on installments of Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives on the Food Network. In 2016, a third San Diego branch of Pizzeria Luigi opened in the South County city of Imperial Beach.
Bravo's Mexican Bistro & Cantina permanently shuttered in January of this year and the central Ocean Beach space was taken over by Agostini to transform it to Pizzeria Luigi. Now open, the menu offers pizza by the slice and whole pie, including favorites like the Crime Scene pizza with ricotta, meatball and marinara dots and the Leonardo with mozzarella, parmesan and pesto. The restaurant will also eventually add vegetarian and vegan pizza, salads, wings, stromboli, calzones, pizza rolls, sandwiches, pasta dishes, and a full bar with spirits, cocktails, beer and wine.
Pizzeria Luigi is now open during limited hours at 5001 Newport Avenue in San Diego's Ocean Beach. For more information, visit pizzerialuigi.com.
