Now in its soft opening stage overlooking South Carlsbad State Beach is The Camp Store, a full service market, cafe, and beach rental facility that will eventually add a pizza component and host live entertainment.
The Camp Store owner Anthony Marcotti has spent the last 20 years in the surf travel and tourism industry developing projects in Indonesia and Fiji, in the process sending more than 13,000 people on surf vacations. Last summer, Marcotti took over the market at the South Carlsbad State Beach Campground in partnership with the State of California Parks Division and has since converted it to be a combination grocery & camping supply store and restaurant.
"The Camp Store concept is focused on creating a new food and entertainment experience at South Carlsbad State Beach," explained Marcotti. "The location is unparalleled and we wanted to integrate the camping/surfing theme to improve the surrounding area and building into a modern facility that still maintained its roots and familiarity. We are currently open but testing the different menus. We plan to have the full concept ready by mid July with a set schedule and meals going out breakfast, lunch, and dinner."
The Camp Store recently opened its onsite restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean with a limited menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings, as well as coffee drinks, beer and wine. Once the eatery is fully open later this summer, more food items will be added, including wood-fired pizzas, shaved ice and soft serve ice cream. The sprawling outdoor area atop the cliff has been revitalized with native plants, outdoor tables, fire pits, and a 1970 Airstream Overlander with a television to watch sporting events. The Camp Store also offers surf and bodyboard rentals and will eventually add frequent live music.
