San Diego's The Friendly Tavern To Transform Into Cocktail-Fueled Halloween Haven

September 25, 2021

Fresh off its 2nd year anniversary celebration, San Diego's The Friendly Tavern will transform its expansive outdoor space into a cocktail-fueled, haunted Halloween haven.

"I'm turning the Tavern into a haunted pumpkin patch," explained The Friendly owner Brandon Zanavich. "Got 30 bales of hay coming, 3 pallets of pumpkins, corn stalks....kinda leaning into this one. Gonna push the bar end too with a bunch of Halloween drinks. We are gonna be doing no food specials for this one....all booze. We don't want people getting the impression this pumpkin patch is for kids. #drunkinpatch #itsabarnotaplayground".

In addition to a festive atmosphere and specialty drinks like a ghost pepper & blood orange margarita and pumpkin white Russian, The Friendly Tavern will be selling pumpkins for customers to bring home and carve. The spooky decorations will be up from around September 29 through Halloween Day, Sunday, October 31.

In early 2018, longtime San Diego restaurant general manager, pizza maker and cook Brandon Zanavich opened The Friendly on a quiet stretch of 30th Street on the outskirts of North Park. The pizzeria quickly gained a cult following due to its no-nonsense environment, frequent chef pop-ups, and the popularity of its Dirty Flat Top cheeseburger. In September 2019, the team behind The Friendly opened The Friendly Tavern, an al-fresco restaurant devoted to the brand's iconic smashed patty burgers, in the former Carnitas' Snack Shack space in North Park. The Friendly crew has also taken over the space that last housed Chung's Hair Barber Shop in the small Convoy Street plaza that houses Tajima Ramen and Steamy Piggy for the opening of its third area location, dubbed Friendly 3.

The Friendly Tavern is located at 2632 University Avenue in San Diego's North Park. For more information, follow the company on Instagram
