La Taqueria Tijuana To Bring Authentic Taco Shop Experience To San Diego's Hillcrest

March 15, 2022

San Diego-born La Taqueria Tijuana will soon launch its third area location in Hillcrest, opening later this year in the space that previously occupied by Baba's Chicken.

Fernando Montiel opened the first La Taqueria Tijuana in 2019 at 1753 Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach. The fast-casual eatery offers a traditional San Diego taco shop experience with a menu of Tijuana-style street tacos on freshly handmade tortillas, as well as burritos, tortas, quesadillas, rolled tacos and smothered fried & chips using proteins like spit-roasted adobada, carne asada, pollo asado, birria, tripe, and veggies. Last year, a second La Taqueria Tijuana location opened on the base floor of the Broadstone apartment building in Little Italy. The owners of La Taqueria Tijuana are also working on an upscale, yet-to-be-named Mexican mariscos restaurant anticipated to open by this June in the space that last housed iDessert by Jean-Phillippe in Little Italy

The third La Taqueria Tijuana is in the process of being installed in the 2,700 square-foot eatery in the heart of Hillcrest that last housed Baba's Chicken, which closed recently after only around a year in business. The new branch will offer the same food menu as the others plus an array of Mexican sodas and soft drinks.

La Taqueria Tijuana #3 will open this spring at 406 W University Ave, Suite B, in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. For more information, follow the company on Facebook & Instagram.
