Mexican Mariscos Is On The Menu At Little Italy's Incoming Crudo Oyster Bar

March 10, 2022

The owners of San Diego's La Taqueria Tijuana restaurants have taken over the space that last housed iDessert by Jean-Phillippe in Little Italy and are opening Crudo Oyster Bar, an upscale, Baja-style Mexican seafood restaurant.

Fernando Montiel, Fernando González and Eduardo Bustamante have launched two locations of their modern Mexican taco shop La Taqueria Tijuana, including an outpost on Kettner Boulevard in Little Italy that opened last year. They recently doubled down in Little Italy by leasing the 1,333 square-foot space previously occupied by iDessert by Jean-Phillippe, which shuttered in September 2021 after six years in business

"We are opening a Baja-style fusion marisqueria/cevicheria/crudo bar/ with lots of magical tostadas, ceviches and oysters inspired by our chef Miguel Ángel Gómez," explained founder Fernando Montiel. "Chef Miguel was born in San Diego, raised in Tijuana, and for the past seven years has been just focusing on the Baja style seafood and the influences of this multicultural cuisine."

The La Taqueria Tijuana team will soon open Crudo Oyster Bar, a Mexican seafood restaurant sited in the former iDessert space. Expect a complete redesign of the unit, including the addition of roll up doors on the storefront and unique accents to create a fresher and upscale atmosphere. As patrons walk in, they will see an open kitchen marisquería and oyster bar where chefs will be preparing fresh seafood tostadas, aguachiles, ceviches, crudo, shellfish and oysters. There will also be a menu of wine, beer, sake and champagne meant to pair with specific seafood dishes.

Crudo Oyster bar is anticipated to open this June at 1608 India Street in San Diego's Little Italy.
