Pacific Beach-Born Sandbox Pizza To Take Over Longtime Tin Fish Location In San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter

March 9, 2022

Founded in San Diego's Pacific Beach in 2013, Sandbox Pizza & Wings will soon take over the 4,500 square-foot Gaslamp Quarter space occupied by Tin Fish restaurant for more than two decades.

In October 2013, Randy Martin, who also owns The Tipsy Crow in San Diego's Gaslamp, opened Sandbox Pizza & Wings within a small retail complex sited off Grand Avenue in Pacific Beach. Last spring, Martin purchased the PB Cantina space on Garnet Avenue from Sunset Restaurant Management Group, which also owns Cabo Cantina and Baja Beach Bar in San Diego. Sandbox eventually relocated to the larger unit and reopened in June 2021 with an expanded menu and full bar. The original Sandbox location is now occupied by The Hideout Bar & Grill, a Mexican/Hawaiian fusion restaurant.

The Sandbox team is currently closing a deal to take over the mostly al-fresco Gaslamp Quarter space across from the Convention Center that has housed Tin Fish restaurant since 1998. With keys expected to transfer this summer, expect a tiki-style design and a menu of pizzeria-style appetizers, salads, sandwiches, wings, and specialty pizzas with a multitude of sauces and toppings, as well as cocktails, beer and wine.

Sandbox Pizza & Wings is anticipated to open in fall 2022 at 170 Sixth Avenue in San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter. For more information, visit sandboxsd.com and check out the menu below.
