Two new locations of super popular, Georgia-based fast-casual chicken chain Chick-Fil-A are in the works for San Diego County.
Founded by S. Truett Cathy in Hapeville, GA, in 1961, Chick-Fil-A now has nearly 3,000 locations around the United States and Canada, including 16 branches sited around San Diego County. Chick-Fil-A was the first national restaurant chain to make a fried chicken sandwich its primary menu item. With an ethos based on its late founder's Southern Baptist beliefs, the company's conservative opposition to same-sex marriage has been the subject of public controversy, although the company has allegedly begun to loosen its stance on this issue in recent years.
Chick-Fil-A has secured new site to construct a 3,932-square-foot restaurant on Avenida Encinas in Carlsbad, which is currently in development. The company also recently took over a nearly 6,000 square-foot building that last housed an Islands Restaurant location within La Jolla Village Square on Nobel Drive in La Jolla. While the La Jolla branch is expected to have a drive-thru window, the Carlsbad Branch will not, being the city no longer allows them.
