Popular San Diego Restaurant Robbed At Gunpoint | Police Seeking Information To Identify Suspect

May 29, 2023

A popular San Diego restaurant was robbed at gunpoint over Memorial Day weekend and police are currently seeking information to help identify the suspect.

On Sunday, May 28, San Diego Police officers received a call just before 10pm about a robbery in the 1800 block of West Washington Street in Mission Hills. It was reported that a masked man walked into Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop restaurant and approached an employee standing by the register.

Once the worker acknowledges the masked man, he reportedly pulled up his sweatshirt to reveal a handgun. The employee then opened the cash register and the robber removed the drawer and placed it on the counter before taking approximately $1,000 in cash. No injuries were reported. The suspect fled the scene on foot and left westbound. He was seen wearing a black hat, green hooded zip-up sweatshirt, a cream sweater, black pants, white shoes, surgical mask, and gloves.

This is the second time this particular Lucha Libre has made the news this month. Earlier this May, a viral video made its way around the Internet showing a heated and nearly violent interaction between an infuriated customer and a Lucha Libre employee.

Anyone with information related to the robbery incident is asked to contact the San Diego Police Department and/or Crime Stoppers at 888.580.8477.
