Osteria Cotto E Mangiato Brings Italian Cuisine To El Cortez Building In Downtown San Diego

October 24, 2023

Replacing Cali Breakfast on the base floor of downtown San Diego's historic El Cortez Hotel building is Osteria Cotto e Mangiato, a new Italian bar & restaurant from an experienced area restaurateur.

Last fall Executive Chef Marco Provino opened morning-focused Cali Breakfast in Cortez Hill. Provino is also a founder of Giardino Italian restaurant in Lemon Grove and has ownership interests in San Diego-based Inpasta, Allegro and Rusticucina restaurants. Cali Breakfast featured a variety of Latin American and California-style breakfast options and a build-your-own drink experience.

Provino recently rebranded Cali-Breakfast to become Osteria Cotto e Mangiato, which offers an expansive selection of antipasti, which is an Italian word for 'pre-meal' snacks. Dubbed as the "city’s first Antipastini Restaurant & Bar," expect dishes like tuna tartare, beef carpaccio, homemade meatballs, arancini rice balls, meat and cheese boards, flatbreads, and much more, as well as salads, soups, fresh-made pasta, and a selection of entrees.

Osteria Cotto e Mangiato is now open at 702 Ash Street, Suite E, in San Diego's Cortez Hill. For more information, visit osteriacottoemangiato.com and check out the launch menu below.
