Caps Pizza & Bar Set To Close In Downtown San Diego After More Than 30 Years In Business

February 6, 2024

Caps Pizza & Bar is set to permanently close in downtown San Diego after more than three decades in business.

John and Lora Caparell established Caparell's Italian Cuisine on First Avenue in downtown in 1989. In early 2010, the name was changed to Cap's Pizza and Bar to reflect the restaurant's focus on its menu of house made pizza. Caps Pizza & Bar has now announced it will close after end of service on Friday, February 9.

"We are saddened to announce the closing of our business, Caps Pizza and Bar," announced the company on its Facebook pace. "We have been proud to serve San Diego for the past 30+ years. We have met so many wonderful people and we appreciate your support over the years! We thank you, our loyal customers and our awesome staff, both past and present. We could not have done it without you! It has been an amazing journey, but for many reasons, we  cannot continue. We never fully recovered from the pandemic and the continued increase in not only food costs, but utilities, minimum wage, insurance, etc., has led us to this decision."

Caps Pizza & Bar is located at 1428 1st Avenue in downtown San Diego. For more information, visit capspizzaandbar.com
