BAD Chefs Bringing Late Night Brunch To Downtown San Diego

March 16, 2024

Opening later this month in the long-vacant downtown San Diego space last occupied by RA Sushi is BAD Chefs, a late night, weekend-only brunch bar & restaurant.

In summer 2021, longtime U.S. Navy chef Geoff Cole opened Chefs restaurant and social lounge in the 3,000 square foot space previously occupied by The Morning After on the corner of 6th Avenue and F Street in downtown San Diego. The bar and restaurant quickly became a hot spot due to its unique dinner service where rotating celebrity and local chefs would showcase their own specialties with their dishes then featured on a weekly basis.

Unfortunately, Chefs SD closed last year after its liquor license was revoked by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). In a statement announcing the impending closure, Cole's representative claimed the revocation was racially motivated and that the SDPD had been essentially harassing the establishment by shining a spotlight onto the building every Friday and Saturday nights.

Chef Cole has now taken over the 5,000+ square-foot space on the ground floor of the Viridian Lofts Apartments in downtown San Diego that has been dormant for more than eight years since the 2016 closure of RA Sushi. On Easter Sunday, Cole will open BAD, which stands for "brunch after dark". Expect a menu of elevated brunch cuisine served on Friday and Saturday from late night until early morning, as well as all-day Sunday with live music and mimosas.

BAD Chefs will open on March 31 at 474 Broadway in downtown San Diego. For more information, follow BAD Chefs on Instagram.
