Schmackary's Cookies was founded in 2011 by Zachary Schmahl, a boy from Nebraska who came to New York City with a showbiz dream. After charming his neighborhood with his delicious homemade cookies, Schmahl opened the first Schmackary's in Hell’s Kitchen. The brand was an immediate success and after more than a decade of building a national network of fans, Schmahl began expanding the brand through franchising.
"I wanted to be a part of something that makes people happy," said Lott. "When I went to Schmackary's, it reminded me of a neighborhood bakery in the small town where my mom grew up. It was an experience like no other. I’m excited for all the possibilities that Schmackary’s brings to San Diego."
Since opening in NYC’s Theatre District over a decade ago, Schmackary's has received critical acclaim. The bite-sized NY flagship store cranks out thousands of cookies daily to tourists, locals and Broadway stars clamoring for a bite of the city's beloved baked good. Most recently, the company made a grand appearance on Hulu’s Only Murders in The Building as a core part of the plot, making them a household name nationwide.
Schmackary's Cookies recently entered into a franchise agreement with Sharian Lott to finally bring the dessert shop to the West Coast. Lott and her family have a deep history both in San Diego and the Broadway community. Daughter of Dorothy Smith, the first Black woman elected to office in San Diego and purveyor of the longest running Black theater in the country, Lott has spent her lifetime embedded within San Diego. She is also the mother of Broadway star, Loren Lott.

Lott is looking for ideal locations around San Diego County to open her first Schmackary's Cookies. She is currently exploring sites around central San Diego, as well as North County and South Bay. Schmackary's is also opening a production facility in San Diego that will support their cookies being sent to the entire West Coast.
