Tako Vibrant Sushi Coming Soon To San Diego's Old Town

August 17, 2024

A new rooftop restaurant specializing in Mexican-Japanese fusion, Tako Vibrant Sushi will soon open in San Diego's Old Town.

From father-and-son Sal & Pietro Busalacchi, who also own nearby Trattoria Don Pietro, and their partner Gustavo Rios, El Sueño opened in June 2023 in the space that previously housed historic La Pinata in Old Town from 1928 until the historic eatery shuttered in 2018. The second story of El Sueno will soon be converted to be a separate restaurant concept dubbed Tako Vibrant Sushi.

"We have decided to turn the upstairs space at El Sueno into its own sushi restaurant," explained owner Pietro Busalacchi. "The sushi at El Sueno was so loved that we decided to take it to another level literally and figuratively."

Tako Vibrant Sushi will offer a Mexican Japanese fusion menu with tapas-style sushi and Japanese-inspired tacos on Tuesdays. The 1,200 square-foot dining space will have a 14 seat bar with frequent guest DJs playing music, upscale service, and over the top cocktails made with tequila, Japanese whisky and sake.

Tako Vibrant Sushi is anticipated to open in September at 2836 Juan Street in San Diego's Old Town. For more information, follow Tako on Instagram.
