Currently under construction across from the Driving School in Fun Town, the forthcoming land is being designed by Merlin Magic Making, the global creative team behind many of Merlin Entertainments' signature projects. Although the official name of the new area has yet to be revealed, the space-themed expansion will be included with general admission and all annual passes.
At the center of the new land will be a fully immersive indoor roller coaster, a first for LEGOLAND California in over two decades. The attraction launches from the fictional "Spaceport 886," a nod to LEGO’s original Space Buggy set (#886), and promises a family-friendly thrill ride through an uncharted galaxy. The coaster has been designed in collaboration with the LEGO Group and will incorporate advanced technology and narrative storytelling to create an out-of-this-world experience.
Beyond the main attraction, the new land will feature two additional space-themed rides suitable for all ages, a "Junior Astronaut Training Zone" play area tailored for toddlers, and a cosmic-themed restaurant and retail space offering galactic-inspired food, beverages, and souvenirs.
The imaginative storyline invites visitors into a LEGO galaxy where explorers from the past, present, and future come together to navigate the wonders of space. Park officials say more details - including the official name of the land and individual rides - will be announced closer to the opening date.
This expansion is part of a $90 million investment across LEGOLAND California and LEGOLAND Florida, representing the largest in-park expansion in the brand’s history. It also coincides with the final run of the Nike and LEGO Play Arena, which will close August 10, and the return of the LEGO World Parade as part of the summer's Block Party festivities.
Guests who purchase annual passes now will receive access to the new land when it opens in 2026, along with entry to popular seasonal events like the Halloween Brick-or-Treat Monster Party and Holidays at LEGOLAND.
LEGOLAND California Resort is located at One Legoland Drive in San Diego's North County city of Carlsbad. For more information, visit legoland.com/california.
