The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality performs thousands of inspections annually to ensure that food establishments adhere to necessary safety standards. When inspectors identify critical violations, they issue closure notices, mandating that businesses resolve the issues before they can reopen, as well as reduce the health grade of some establishments.

Gossip Grill (1202 E University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103) - Ordered closed upon reinspection on April 1 (following original inspection on March 23) for Vermin - Major.

Valerios Finest Bake Shop (2220 E Plaza Blvd, National City, CA 91950) - Ordered closed on April1 for Food Contact Surfaces - Minor; Vermin - Major; Nonfood Contact Surfaces Clean - Out of Compliance; and Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use - Out of Compliance.

La Especial Tacos A Vapor USA (1903 Highland Ave, National City, CA 91950) - Ordered closed on April 2 for Proper Handwashing Facilities - Minor; Vermin - Major; Storage of Toxic Substances - Out of Compliance; Premises, Personal/Cleaning Items, Exclusion Measures - Out of Compliance; and Floors, Walls, and Ceilings - Out of Compliance.

Break Point (939 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109) - Ordered closed upon reinspection on April 2 (originally closed on March 26) for Vermin - Major.

DOWNGRADES:

De Cabeza (1043 Broadway, Suite 108, Chula Vista, CA 91911) - Downgraded to a B grade with an 86 score on March 27 for Proper Cooling - Major; Proper Reheating - Major; Food in Good Condition, Safe and Unadulterated - Major; Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use - Out of Compliance; and Plumbing - Out of Compliance.
