The Revitalization of Belmont Park | San Diego Destination Continues Total Modernization for Summer 2014

From WaveHouse to the Belmont Park rides and vendors, this historic Mission Beach amusement park and entertainment destination has been undergoing a complete rejuvenation in preparation for Summer 2014. Once believed to be a doomed area due to targeting by the city of San Diego, Belmont Park was taken over in 2012 and has since undergone a continued expansion. Coming soon, expect two 300 foot zip lines, a leap of faith drop, a laser tag area, a timed rock wall, a craft beer bar, a rooftop sushi lounge and more to gear Belmont up for the 21st century. 

Erick Castro Announces the "Spirit Society" Cocktail Class at Polite Provisions

General Manager and Partner, Erick Castro of Polite Provisions officially launches his new monthly cocktail education series on Monday, April 7.  The series, dubbed the Spirit Society, is dedicated to providing a fun, highly educational, hands-on learning experience in the world of cocktails. Rather than attempting to cram a broad spectrum of bartending knowledge into a single class, each two-hour session will hone in on one specific topic or spirit.  Classes are open to the public and limited to 12 attendees in order for Erick to give invaluable one-on-one attention. Each imbiber will have his or her own personal workstation complete with all the necessary jiggers, strainers, glasses and ingredients to mix up three distinct cocktails alongside Castro.

Armando's The Green Flash has been a landmark of Ocean Front Walk in Pacific Beach since 1990 , but the restaurant/bar at 701 Thomas Avenue will soon close its doors to be taken over by the crew behind Cabo Cantina, PB Cantina and Fiesta Cantina. The Cabo brand's owner Milton Zampelli will reportedly keep the location restaurant-centric rather than his usual 2-for-1 drink special, Mexican-inspired, rowdy "cantina."

On Sunday, March 23, The Headquarters at Seaport District will debut Brian’s Certified Farmers’ Market featuring gourmet items in a setting inspired by the eclectic and bustling European markets.  Every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. more than 30 vendors will line Harbor Drive stretching from Pacific Highway to the park offering a bountiful array of locally grown and produced delicacies.  Shoppers will stroll among the charming and cheerful stalls displaying an enticing selection of tempting sweets, such as unusual preserves, honeys, and savories, with flavorful olives and nuts, as well as authentic crusty European breads and artisan cheeses, a wide variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, seafood and wines.

“Beer before liquor never sicker” might be the old adage and since nothing rhymes with simultaneously (try to find a word, we dare you), the new beer cocktail trend has yet to merit its own catch phrase. Beer cocktails complement the menu from Executive Chef Matt Ham at the recently opened La Jolla Brewing Company. Head brewer Brett Stampf brews five beers on site and this month, La Jolla Brewing Company turned ‘em into five shiny new beer cocktails with a little help from the Blind Tiger Cocktail Company.

San Diegans who have a penchant for painting can create their own masterpiece while benefiting arts education in schools on Sunday, March 23 from 2-5pm at Mia Francesca in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center.
