San Diego native Anthony Sinsay left the employ of TS Restaurants this past May after working in the kitchen of Jakes Del Mar for most of 2015 before taking the reigns at Duke's La Jolla when it opened last November. The young and talented chef will soon take over the kitchen at Jsix at Hotel Solamar in Downtown San Diego, filling the void left by the departure of the restaurant's longtime Executive Chef Christian Graves, who announced last month that he was leaving San Diego to relocate to Denver, Colorado. Chef Dave Underwood has been appointed as Executive Chef of Duke's La Jolla.

He has a Michelin Star and is readying to open a restaurant in San Diego. Chef Drew Deckman, known for his popular Valle De Guadalupe al fresco eatery Deckman's En El Mogor in Baja California Mexico, has partnered with local designer Paul Basile and the pair has secured a space in the Structure Lofts building at 440 Upas Street on the border of Bankers Hill and Hillcrest and will open a yet-to-be-named concept (Deckman's Bankers Hill has a nice ring to it!) as early as this November.

Turmeric is spicing up dishes all across America after being declared the spice of the year for its tasty flavor and health effects. Google’s Food Trends reports a 56 percent increase in search since last November on the vibrant spice. Traditionally used in Indian cuisine, turmeric is uniquely being used in Italian food here in San Diego, with Bencotto in Little Italy harnessing the spice for weekly pasta specials, starting with a pillowy gnocchi dish topped with shaved black truffles!

The national tour of the Broadway musical, Hamilton, which tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, will play in San Diego as part of the 2017-2018 season, it was announced today by producer Jeffrey Seller and Broadway San Diego. This musical has received rave reviews since its launch in 2015 and has been nominated for a record-setting 16 Tony Awards.

Mr. Moto Pizza House, which opened its first location in 2015 in San Diego's Pacific Beach neighborhood, is expanding to North Park and is expected to open in early 2017. Mr. Moto has taken over the space at 3773 30th Street, Unit J, and will renovate to have the same look and feel as its PB location, with a menu offering a variety of NY-style specialty pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, calzones and stromboli.

From Abel Kaase, the guy behind Sessions Public in Point Loma, Beerfish will offer seafood-centric fare from Executive Chef Aaron Obregon, complimented by a wide selection of local craft beer.

The events are set for every Tuesday in June from 5pm-10ish and a specialty grilled cheese sandwich filled with a cheese from a different region of Italy will be served at the downtown restaurant’s cheese bar. Crafted by Chef de Cuisine Francesca Penoncelli, the meltingly delicious sandwiches are priced at $10 and can be paired with a suggested wine or beer for $16.
