Breakfast Republic Cracks Open In Pacific Beach With Incoming Fast-Casual Eggie's Eatery & Nighttime-Focused Bar Retribution

December 17, 2017

The seventh location for the Breakfast Republic brand has launched in Pacific Beach, opening in the two-story space that previously housed sports bar Miller’s Field. The restaurant will also add two new concepts from Rise & Shine Restaurant Group in 2018 - fast casual breakfast and coffee eatery Eggies and upstairs night-focused bar Retribution.

Now a limited partnership between Johan Engman's Run Rooster LLC and Glen Miller's Miller of San Diego, Inc. - the newest Breakfast Republic location is the largest to date, offering 4,500 square-feet of dining space in a bi-level building located one block from the Pacific Ocean.

In addition to Breakfast Republic, the building will also house two new concepts in 2018. On the top floor, the venue will offer an evening-oriented, speakeasy-like bar called Retribution, which will likely offer a limited food menu although details are still in the works. Eggies will sit within a repurposed shipping container kiosk located outside in the space where the Miller's Field Coffee Shop once sat and offer an array of coffee drinks, smoothies, acai bowls, egg sandwiches and other fast-service breakfast items for take-away. More Eggies outposts will also be implanted at the North Park and East Village locations in 2018.

Johan Engman
Johan Engman entered the breakfast game with his first Fig Tree Cafe in Pacific Beach in 2008. His Rise & Shine Restaurant Group now operates three Fig Tree locations (PB, Hillcrest & Liberty Station) and packs the house at 7 locations of his Breakfast Republic eateries (North Park, Ocean Beach, East Village, Encinitas, Liberty Station, Carmel Valley and now Pacific Beach). Anticipated to debut in May 2018 will be the 8th Breakfast Republic, opening inside The Shoppes at Carlsbad - the brand’s first venture inside of a retail mall. Engman also has North Park Breakfast Company near completion for early 2018, is opening a from-scratch Italian concept called Pizza Republic in North Park, and is building an upscale Mexican restaurant in Liberty Station named El Jardin, whose Executive Chef Claudette Zepeda-Wilkins is currently competing on the most recent season of Bravo network's Top Chef culinary competition. Rumor has it that Engman also has plans in the works for plenty more Breakfast Republic location, including Mission Valley and outside San Diego County.

Owner Glen Miller founded the establishment at 4465 Mission Boulevard in Pacific Beach back in 1989 as Pizzeria Uno. In 2007, the business transitioned into Miller's Field until Miller partnered with Engman earlier this summer.
