Tender Greens To Open 4th San Diego Location In Mission Valley On December 7

November 27, 2015

The rapidly expanding chain Tender Greens is set to open its long-awaited 21st location and 4th San Diego outpost at Westfield Mission Valley in the former Loehmann's space on December 7. Tender Greens already has San Diego locations in Liberty Station, the Westfield UTC mall, and on Broadway in downtown San Diego.

Named one of the “10 Best Chain Restaurants in the World” by Condé Nast Traveler, Tender Green's Mission Valley location will be helmed by San Diego native, Chef Peter Balistreri, and feature new veg-friendly menu offerings, including the crispy falafel made with garbanzo, parsley, lemon and olive oil as a new protein option, as well as the restaurant’s new Plant Based sides.

Chef Peter Balistreri
After graduating from The California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, Peter Balistreri moved back to San Diego and worked at the Lodge at Torrey Pines for the next five years, picking Chef Jeff Jackson’s brain as much as possible. He eventually decided it was time to broaden his cooking horizon and try something new, so he started working as Sous Chef with his cousin, Chef Pete Balistreri, at Tender Greens in Point Loma. After several years there, he became the Executive Chef of Tender Greens in La Jolla – UTC.

Daily specials at Tender Greens Mission Valley will feature a variety of seasonal specialty items that change twice daily and will be shared online. Guests can look forward to inspired cooking from a fine dining point of view, such as Braised PEI Mussels in a coconut tomato broth, Smoked Pork Shoulder with apple slaw and chipotle aioli, and house made Handkerchief Pasta with autumn squash, Swiss chard and crispy sage. In addition, Tender Greens Mission Valley will have Chef Pete Balistreri’s signature P. Balistreri Salumi, offering a selection of innovative, hand-crafted artisan salumi and charcuterie made with all-natural pork, sea salt, artisan spices and hand-cut organic herbs in Southern California.

Tender Greens has a cafeteria style format
As for drinks, expect selection of all natural house made agua fresca with no sugar added, mint lemonade, bubbly and fizzy Sparklers with a splash of fruit, Lifestyle Drinks (house blended veggies and fruit juices, naturally sweetened), GT’s Synergy Kombucha on tap, Mostra coffee and Cold Brew on tap, Mighty Leaf tea, and a selection of boutique wines and local craft beer.

In addition to partnering with local farmers and ranchers, Tender Greens Mission Valley will feature on-site Aeroponic Tower Gardens installed by Green City Farms and maintained by Point Loma Farms. The towers will grow seasonal produce and specialty items for use in the restaurant’s daily specials, Plant Based Sides menu options and more. Guests dining on the patio will be able to see the produce growing next to their table and be able to enjoy it on their plate minutes from harvesting.

By combining aeroponic technology with vertical farming, each tower uses up to 95% less water and 90% less land than traditional growing methods. Tender Greens and Green City Farms co-founders Robby Foreman and Niels Thorlaksson proudly support the local food movement and passionately advocate for a more sustainable food system in our urban environment.

Located within Westfield Mission Valley, Tender Greens Mission Valley dining area occupies approximately 1,120 square feet of seating, 56 in the dining room, as well as a 1,055 square foot outdoor patio that seats 58.
