City Tacos Owners Get Into Burger Game With Opening Of Imperial Beach Buns

May 25, 2019

After recently opening a new outpost as part of Mike Hess Brewing Company's Imperial Beach tasting room, the owners of City Tacos ceased operations at their nearby IB Street Tacos and replaced the concept with Imperial Beach Buns, a fast casual burger concept now open in San Diego's South County.

Gerry Torres and chef/partner Eduardo Baeza opened the flagship City Tacos in North Park in 2014 and IB Street Tacos in Imperial Beach in 2015. Building on the success of the first City Tacos restaurant, they opened a second location in La Mesa in late 2017. The duo also launched Mexican eatery and tortilla shop Tortilla N' Taco Factory in El Cajon in 2018 and Tostadas in North Park in summer 2015, which closed last year and was rebranded into Baja-style bar & restaurant, La Catrina Tapas & Cantina in partnership with MX-native Roger Canez. Most recently, City Tacos opened a beachside branch in Imperial Beach as part of a Mike Hess Brewing Tasting Room. City Tacos locations are also in the works for 1031 S Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas, a pierside branch in Pacific Beach in the space that last house a ramen restaurant, and an outpost in Sorrento Valley.

Being that the new Imperial Beach City Tacos is sited across the street from where IB Street Tacos stood, ownership decided to rebrand the eatery into a burger restaurant. Imperial Beach Buns serves a menu of signature burgers - including vegetarian, chicken and fish varieties - as well as salads, french fries, elote and milkshakes. The building where the restaurant is sited is set to be demolished in the near future, so the eatery may be short lived, at least at its current location.

Imperial Beach Buns is located at 805 Seacoast Drive in San Diego's Imperial Beach community. Check out the menu below.
