Allegro Brings Coastal Italian Fare To San Diego's Little Italy

February 15, 2021

The longtime former Indigo Grill space has a new tenant in Allegro, a coastal-inspired Italian eatery from the team behind such San Diego dining concepts as Greystone Steakhouse, Saltwater, and Osteria Panevino.

In January 2020, San Diego's Cohn Restaurant Group shuttered its Little Italy Latin American eatery Indigo Grill after more than two decades in business. It was previously reported that the owner of such area concepts as Harry's Coffee Shop in La Jolla, Cass St. Bar in Pacific Beach and The Venetian in Point Loma took over the prime space to open a second and more expansive Harry's Taco Club, but those plans changed and San Diego Dining Group took over the space last fall.

San Diego Dining Group is the parent company behind such area restaurants as Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse, Osteria Panevino, Saltwater, Rusticucina, The Butcher's Cut, Fresh Catch Market & Grill, and Farmer's Table. The hospitality company, which was founded by Sicilian-born chefs Vincenzo Loverso and longtime partner Alessandro Minutella, unveiled its newest concepts Allegro over the weekend.

"The word Allegro when translated means 'happiness', as people walk through the streets of Little Italy they will be greeted by a neon light welcoming community members to partake in this dining experience," explained San Diego Dining Group Executive Alberto Mestre. "We wanted to bring a modern day dining experience to Little Italy, after much research and consideration, together San Diego Dining Group designed this innovative masterpiece that the public is sure to love."

Allegro features a menu described as "coastal California meets Italy." Expect raw bar options, authentic appetizers, fresh produces salads, brick oven flatbreads, a variety of homemade pastas, fresh seafood dishes, and signature entrees from Executive Chef Marco Provino. Allegro offers a contemporary design with an open kitchen visible through a glass window, a marble bar, a wine cellar, and a Tuscan lemon garden-inspired patio drenched in velvet, gold, marble, ceramic tiles and fire pits and enterable through 15' vintage, wooden doors. The restaurant has a full bar with extensive wine offerings, local and Italian beers, and craft cocktails and Italian spirits.

Allegro is now open at 1536 India Street in San Diego's Little Italy neighborhood. For more information, visit allegro-sd.com and check out the full menu below.
