Industry Veteran To Open All-Day Cafe Palmys In San Diego's Pacific Beach

May 23, 2021

Set to open this summer in the 1920s-era cottage that last housed a branch of Brick & Bell in San Diego's Pacific Beach, Palmys aims to be an all-day neighborhood espresso bar, bistro, market and community hangout space.

Palmy's is the creation of longtime restaurateur Dillon Berkabile, who is a founder of the Bowlology chain of healthy eateries and is also a partner on several other restaurants. Earlier this year, Berkabile signed a 10 year lease on the 1,396 square-foot standalone former-home with 2,100 square feet of patio space on the corner of Cass & Felspar a couple blocks from the ocean in Pacific Beach.

"Palmys is a business built around a group of friends shared passion for healthy active beach lifestyles and the food and drinks that we've found along our adventures," explained founder Dillon Berkabile. "We’ve drawn inspiration and influence from California, Mexico, Australia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka to name a few. The beach inspires us and represents the most amazing access point to connect with nature and having fun. The type of unassuming, carefree fun you had at the beach as a child. We guide the development of Palmys with that in mind to create an accepting, accessible, fun and functional experience where everyone feels at home and can afford to come several times a week."

Palmys will offer an all-day menu with healthy options for breakfast, brunch, lunch and eventually dinner. The eatery will have an espresso bar, organic smoothies & juices, and health-focused bowls, sandwiches, toasts and entrees for breakfast and lunch. Palmys will have ample indoor seating and deck dining within a lush garden space. Eventually, the restaurant hopes to obtain a liquor license.

Palmys aims to open in late June to early July at 976 Felspar Street in San Diego's Pacific Beach. Follow the concept on Instagram for more information.
