Los Angeles-Based Pitfire Artisan Pizza To Open San Diego Location

May 11, 2022

An artisan pizza chain started in Los Angeles that currently has several locations around Southern California, Pitfire Pizza will open its first bar & restaurant in San Diego.

Pitfire Pizza was founded in North Hollywood, CA, in 1997 by David Sanfield and Paul Hibler, whose American Gonzo Food Corp also owns Pasadena's Superba Snacks + Coffee and Los Angeles' popular burger destination, The Win~Dow. Over the past 25 years, the duo slowly expanded to five locations of Pitfire Pizza in Los Angeles County and one in Costa Mesa.

Pitfire Pizza is the latest tenant to sign on to be a part of Carlsbad's The Beacon La Costa. Formerly La Costa Towne Center, the North County shopping center recently underwent a $10 million renovation and has since attracted several multi-million-dollar tenants, including a location of Shake Shack that recently opened, a branch of Los Angeles-based Sweetgreen salad chain, Ohio-based Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, and incoming eateries like the second location of San Diego-based Trust Restaurant Group's The Wise Ox Butcher & Eatery, a new location of San Diego's Michelin-recogized modern taqueria Lola 55, and The Lullabar cafe, self-care hub, and wellness center.

Like other branches, the San Diego Pitfire Pizza will be pet-friendly and offer a seasonal menu centered around specialty wood-fired pizzas and pasta. There will also be options like wings, salads, shareable plates and gluten-free dishes. The San Diego location will also have a full bar with cocktails, beer and wine.

Pitfire Artisan Pizza is anticipated to open by early 2023 at 7720 El Camino Real in San Diego's North County city of Carlsbad. For more information, visit pitfirepizza.com and check out the current menu below.
