San Diego Restaurants Closures & Downgrades This Week (August 7 - August 13) Due To County Health Department Inspections

Only seven spots, including two popular taco shops, made this weekly list of San Diego County restaurants and food facilities that have faced temporary closures and downgraded status due to health inspections from August 7 - August 13, 2026.

The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality performs thousands of inspections annually to ensure that food establishments adhere to necessary safety standards. When inspectors identify critical violations, they issue closure notices, mandating that businesses resolve the issues before they can reopen, as well as reduce the health grade of some establishments.

Below, we outline the recent week's closures and downgrades as detailed on the SDFoodInfo.org website and the specific violation list for each as reported by the health inspectors.

CLOSURES:

Sunny Donuts (9330 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92123) - Ordered closed on August 7 for Holding Temperatures - Major; Vermin - Major; Nonfood Contact Surfaces Clean - Out of Compliance; Premises, Personal/Cleaning Items, Exclusion Measures - Out of Compliance; Floors, Walls, and Ceilings - Out of Compliance; and Impoundment - Out of Compliance. 

D Wings and Ribs (36 N Euclid Ave, Suite F, National City, CA 91950) - Ordered closed on August 10 for Holding Temperatures - Minor; Vermin - Major; and Premises, Personal/Cleaning Items, Exclusion Measures - Out of Compliance. 

Cotija Taco Stand (872 Eastlake Pkwy, Chula Vista, CA 91914) - Ordered closed on August 13 for Proper Handwashing Facilities - Minor; Holding Temperatures - Minor; Food in Good Condition, Safe and Unadulterated - Minor; Food Contact Surfaces - Minor; Sewage disposal - Minor; Vermin - Major; Nonfood Contact Surfaces Clean - Out of Compliance; Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use - Out of Compliance; Equipment, Utensils, Linens Storage and Use - Out of Compliance; and Floors, Walls, and Ceilings - Out of Compliance. 

DOWNGRADES:

Cotixan Mexican Restaurant (538 N 2nd St, El Cajon, CA 92021) - Downgraded to a C grade with an 77 score on August 7 for Food Safety Certification - Minor; Food Handler Training - Minor; Handwashing - Major; Proper Handwashing Facilities - Minor; Holding Temperatures - Major; Food Contact Surfaces - Major; Food Separated and Protected - Out of Compliance; Nonfood Contact Surfaces Clean - Out of Compliance; Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use - Out of Compliance; Wiping Cloths - Out of Compliance; and Premises, Personal/Cleaning Items, Exclusion Measures - Out of Compliance.

Thai Thai Restaurant (1055 S Main Ave, Fallbrook, CA 92028) - Downgraded to a B grade with an 86 score on August 10 for Holding Temperatures - Major; Food Contact Surfaces - Major; Hot and Cold Water - Major; and Plumbing - Out of Compliance Floors, Walls, and Ceilings - Out of Compliance.

Mr Shawarma Mediterranean Grill (130 S Mollison Ave, El Cajon, CA 92020) - Downgraded to a B grade with an 82 score on August 11 for Food Safety Certification - Minor; Handwashing - Major; Proper Handwashing Facilities - Minor; Food Contact Surfaces - Minor; Vermin - Minor; Storage of Toxic Substances - Out of Compliance; Nonfood Contact Surfaces Clean - Out of Compliance; Warewashing Facilities Maintained - Out of Compliance; Thermometers - Out of Compliance; Garbage and Refuse - Out of Compliance; Premises, Personal/Cleaning Items, Exclusion Measures - Out of Compliance; and Permit - Out of Compliance.
