After three months of aging in a charred oak barrel, Marina Kitchen at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina will introduce specialty Manhattans and Old Fashioneds created from its barrel-aged bourbon. The drinks will be unveiled on Friday, April 11, beginning at 5pm at the Marina Kitchen bar.

This dynamic duo has broken off on their own to convert the coveted space adjacent to Crystal Pier, formerly occupied by Kafe Yen, into Pacific Beach's first Japanese izakaya. San Diego's homegrown family of restaurants, the Cohn Restaurant Group, spearheaded by husband and wife duo David and Lesley Cohn, will be bestowed with the nation's premier restaurant industry award for excellence in community philanthropy and giving. On April 29, 2014, the Cohn Restaurant Group will be awarded as the 2014 national recipient of the National Restaurant Association's "Restaurant Neighbor" award. The Cohns will accept the honor at a gala in Washington D.C. with hundreds of their restaurant industry peers in attendance.

Estimated to launch in June of 2014, Arsalun Tafazoli and Nathan Stanton of CH Projects - a San Diego-based powerhouse hospitality collective with eight distinct concepts in its repertoire (Craft & Commerce, Polite Provisions, Underbelly, Neighborhood, Noble Experiment, etc.) - will introduce a contemporary take on the conventional juice bar experience.  Just last week, a lease was signed on a 1,100 square-foot space located at 871 G Street. Formally occupied by Venissimo Cheese shop before they moved over to The Headquarters, the yet-to-be-named juice bar will join four of the existing CH establishments in the city’s East Village neighborhood (Noble Experiment, Neighborhood, El Dorado, and the new CH concept located next to Petco Park opening this summer).

The East Village is expecting and this April, Table No. 10 delivers. The new restaurant at 369 10th Avenue arrives in just a few weeks located conveniently across the street from Petco Park. This is the first foray into restaurant ownership for Executive Chef Jason Gethin (formerly from Union Kitchen + Tap Encinitas). Partnered with Cooper McLaughlin who previously owned the location's previous inhabitant, The Corner, the duo gutted the inside of the building together. During the remodel, Gethin and McLaughlin got their hands dirty to ensure design and function emulated the long-time vision for the space.

With huge support from amazing local chefs and top notch restaurant venues, the 2014 Chef Celebration Dinner Series is underway and packing in excited diners!  Created by teams of San Diego's top Chefs, this annual series of multi course dinners directly benefits the nonprofit Chefs of San Diego Celebration Foundation - an association of local chefs who annually donate their talent, time and energy to raise money for a culinary scholarship program.  The Chef Celebration dinner series offers a weekly, multi-course meal prepared by a group of chefs, to occur on each Tuesday at a different restaurant throughout the month of April. The fundraising culminates with the 4th Annual Artisan Food & Craft Beef Festival - a grand finale celebration to be held at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens Liberty Station on Sunday, May 4.

The San Diego Brewers Guild (SDBG) continues the tradition of bringing together the best of craft beer at the 3rd Annual Harrah’s Rhythm & Brews Music and Craft Beer Festival along “Hop Highway” in the heart of Vista, California. Taking place on Saturday, May 3 from 12-4pm,  SDBG’S new spring event will feature 50 craft breweries, 9 musical acts on 3 stages, a homebrew contest and local restaurants, with a portion of revenues from the event being donated to the festival’s 501(C)(3) charity partner Relay for Life.

Davanti Enoteca at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center has announced the promotion of Michael Nogera to the position of executive chef. In his new role, Nogera will lead the kitchen and bring creativity and passion to the award-winning restaurant known for its rustic Italian cuisine. Nogera began as sous chef at Davanti Enoteca in April 2013 with ambitions to one day head the restaurant’s kitchen. Earlier positions include working in the Las Vegas kitchens of the esteemed Michael Mina Restaurants and Vox Wine Lounge as well as Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg, CA.
