Zenbu to Close in La Jolla
Zenbu La Jolla will serve its last sushi and sake this Saturday, May 31. After 14 years in the La Jolla community, the Japanese restaurant will shutter in order to prepare and open a new location. No word yet on the reason for the closure or where the next location will be, but the Zenbu in Cardiff-by-the-Sea will remain open. Zenbu opened in 2000 at 7660 Fay Ave. as an expansion of Matt Rimel's Rimel's Rotisserie.
Chef James Montejano Appointed As New Executive Chef of La Valencia
Chef James Montejano has been hired to replace Daniel Barron as Executive Chef of La Jolla's historic La Valencia Hotel, taking control beginning next month of the revamped Meditteranean Room, now known as 'The MED,' as well as the new Café la Rue.

Beaumont’s Eatery Executive Chef George Morris rolled out a new brunch menu this week. The new menu showcases twists on breakfast classics alongside refreshing cocktails and mocktails just in time for summer, when Beaumont's serves as the perfect location for leisurely meals on the recently renovated patio. These new dishes can also be enjoyed during Acoustic Brunch, featuring live music on the patio every Sunday morning.

An all-ages event that features more than 20 bands over two days, also has a little something for everyone with arcade rides, arts and crafts, food, and a 21+ beer garden. Less than a year after being hired to take then-departing chef Paul McCabe's position as Executive Chef of the La Valencia Hotel, Chef Daniel Barron has announced that he and "the Pink Lady" are no more as of Monday, May 26. We've been curious as to what would happen to the former Roseville Cozinha space located at 2750 Dewey Road #104 in Liberty Station and recently heard rumors that CH Projects (Ironside Fish & Oyster, Craft & Commerce, Polite Provisions, etc., etc.) has taken over the location, allegedly for another branch of their Soda & Swine concept. We haven't confirmed this with anyone, but in San Diego, rumors tend to be true.

From the start it was a perfect match – an iconic gathering place in Hillcrest in need of a makeover and a local architect known for bringing the best out of cultural landmarks. So it began, when Graham Downes was hired by Regency Centers in November 2012 to revitalize the Uptown District Shopping Center located at 1030 University Avenue. Although Downes unfortunately passed away last year, his legacy lives on in many different ways, including with this revitalization, which began this past Monday, May 19.
