El Camino Owner Opening Amusement Park-Themed Wolfie's Carousel Bar In Little Italy

February 13, 2020

The founder of San Diego's popular El Camino has secured the space next-door to his Little Italy Mexican restaurant for the opening of Wolfie's Carousel, an amusement park-themed full service bar an actual Merry-Go-Round inside and a restaurant helmed by Top Chef contestant Angelo Sosa.

From designer Mauricio Couturier, who is the founder of El Camino in Little Italy and a co-owner of Bang Bang in the Gaslamp, Wolfie's Carousel is named after Couterier's son and inspired by the historic  Carousel Bar & Lounge at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. Wolfie's will offer a full liquor menu with cocktails, beer and wine available from a rotating carousel bar at the center of eatery. The concept will also have a theme park inspired food menu with a Mexican twist from consulting chef Angelo Sosa, who most recently cooked at Encinitas' Death By Tequila and will appear as a contestant on the next season of Bravo's Top Chef. Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto's former brand development manager is also linked to the project, as ownership hopes to expand the concept once up and running.

Wolfie's Carousel is expected to open next month in the space directly behind El Camino at 2401 Kettner Boulevard, Suite B, in San Diego's Little Italy. The website is currently unpublished but will be sited at wolfiescarousel.com.
