San Diego's king of gluttonous fair food, Chicken Charlie's has now opened stands within Belmont Park in Mission Beach and Grossmont Center in La Mesa.
Known for its deep fried oddities, founder Charlie Boghosian built a cult following over the course of Chicken Charlie's nearly three decades as an area fair vendor. He opened his first brick-and-mortar eatery, Chicken Charlie’s FryBQ, at 5407 Balboa Avenue, Suite 460, in San Diego's Clairemont neighborhood in 2014, but that branch shuttered last October. A larger, full-service second location of Chicken Charlie's, dubbed "The Table", opened in 2018 at 12457 Rancho Bernardo Road in the space that last housed BernardO Restaurant in Rancho Bernardo. The North County restaurant is current open for patio seating and take-out from 11:30am-9pm six days a week.
Chicken Charlie's has opened its usual fair stand setups at two locations around San Diego County. A location in the Walmart parking lot in Grossmont Center has been open since earlier this summer. The La Mesa outpost operates from 11am to 8pm every day except Mondays. Another branch recently launched within Belmont Park in Mission Beach and will operate daily. Both branches are expected to remain open until the San Diego County Fair (hopefully) returns in June 2021.
