The Patio Group Takes Over Table No. 10 Space In East Village & Surf Rider Pizza Cafe In Ocean Beach

The burgeoning restaurant group recently opened Fireside By The Patio. They are working on opening Bao Beach in Mission Beach. Now The Patio Group has taken over the loft-like space previously occupied by Table No. 10 restaurant at 369 10th Avenue in San Diego's East Village for a yet-to-be named concept - The Patio in East Village, perhaps? The group has also purchased Surf Rider Pizza Cafe in Ocean Beach.

Mama's Kitchen recently donated its 8 millionth meal in San Diego County, due in large part to the support it receives at its annual fundraiser tasting extravaganza - Mama's Day! The 25th annual Mama’s Day will take place on Friday, May 6, from 6:30-9:30pm at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. Often touted as the original San Diego tasting event, Mama's Day is held the Friday evening before Mother’s Day and features more than 55 chefs from San Diego’s finest restaurants, hotels and catering companies who graciously prepare delicious samples for nearly 600 attendees.

Barons Market Announces North Park Location Set To Open End Of 2016

The locally owned all-natural grocery store Barons Market has announced its seventh location in the heart of one of San Diego’s most artistic and vibrant neighborhoods - North Park. Formerly a Fresh & Easy, the location at 3231 E. University Avenue joins three other San Diego County stores in Point Loma, Rancho Bernardo and Alpine. This news comes on the heels of the grand opening of Barons’ sixth location in Murrieta earlier this year. According to Barons, the anticipated opening this winter marks the first time the market has opened two locations in one year.

San Diego EarthWork's will host its 27th annual EarthFair, the largest free environmental fair in the world, on Sunday, April 17, from 10am-5pm in Balboa Park. Drawing around 60,000 visitors per year, the free-to-attend EarthFair will feature more than 250 exhibitors, special themed areas, a food pavilion, a special children's activity area, four entertainment venues, the Children’s Earth Parade, the eARTh Gallery arts and crafts show, the Cleaner Car Concourse and more.

100 Years Later Electriquettes Return To Balboa Park | Historic Electric Carts Now Available For Rent

Almost a century before the Prius, before the Smart Car, Electriquettes were all the rave! In 1915, San Diego's Balboa Park was the focus of much of the activity for the Panama-California Exposition and the star of the show that year were the Electriquettes - small wicker carts powered by electric motors - which visitors used to travel around the Prado. Tens of thousands of people from around the world came to the fair from 1915-1916 and rode around Balboa Park in one of Clyde Osborn’s Electriquettes, which have now returned and are available for rent.

Chef Celebration Kicks Off Annual Spring Dinner Series Highlighted By Tasting Event

For the past 20 years, Chef Celebration, a locally based non-profit ‘by chefs, for chefs,’ has made it their mission to build a foundation for San Diego’s culinary future by raising money to provide scholarships for San Diego’s young, aspiring chefs. Founded in 1995 by a small group of local toques, today the non-profit has grown to include more than 50 of the city’s most respected chefs, including Jeff Jackson (The Lodge at Torrey Pines) and Jeffrey Strauss (Pamplemousse Grille) among others, and has raised over $283,000 through their yearly dinner series and festival to provide culinary scholarships to more than 100 individual local recipients - many of which have become staples within San Diego’s culinary community including Stephen Gage (Underbelly), Hanis Cavin (Carnitas’ Snack Shack), and Victor Jimenez (Cowboy Star).
