San Diego based Karl Strauss Brewing Company been named the 2016 Brewery of the Year by the California Travel Association. Each year the association holds an awards ceremony to recognize standout organizations throughout the state that have helped to develop the California tourism brand. Karl Strauss joins an impressive list of previous winners in the Brewery of the Year category that includes Firestone Walker (2015), Russian River (2014), and Sierra Nevada (2013).

The San Diego-based craft brewery will invest $47.8 million to establish an East Coast brewing operation and retail facility in Botetourt County, Virginia, which will create an estimated 178 new jobs. Ballast Point will also open a new brewery restaurant in Long Beach, CA, at the Alamitos Bay Marina.
