San Diego Restaurants Closures & Downgrades This Week (September 18 - September 24) Due To County Health Department Inspections

A local San Diego brewery, a California Pizza Kitchen location, an outpost of a Los Angeles-born ramen chain, and a popular North County brunch restaurant are among the San Diego County restaurants and food facilities temporarily closed or downgraded following health inspections from September 18 - September 24, 2026.

The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality performs thousands of inspections annually to ensure that food establishments adhere to necessary safety standards. When inspectors identify critical violations, they issue closure notices, mandating that businesses resolve the issues before they can reopen, as well as reduce the health grade of some establishments.

Below, we outline the recent week's closures and downgrades as detailed on the SDFoodInfo.org website and the specific violation list for each as reported by the health inspectors.

CLOSURES:

El Takotoro (163 Mace St, Chula Vista, CA 91911) - Ordered closed upon reinspection on September 18 for Commissary/MSU Operation - Out of Compliance. 

Ruby's Diner (5630 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008) - Ordered closed upon reinspection on September 18 for Vermin - Major; and Nonfood Contact Surfaces - Out of Compliance.

China Bros (137 Las Posas Rd, Suite 150, San Marcos, CA 92078) - Ordered closed upon reinspection on September 18 for Vermin - Major. The restaurant was again ordered closed upon reinspection on September 19 for Vermin - Major; Nonfood Contact Surfaces - Out of Compliance; and Floors, Walls & Ceilings - Out of Compliance.

Del Mar Pizza (211 15th St, Del Mar, CA 92014) - Ordered closed on September 21 for Vermin - Major; Handwashing - Minor; Nonfood Contact Surfaces - Out of Compliance; Equipment/Utensils - Out of Compliance; Equipment/Utensils/Linens Storage - Out of Compliance; Premises/Vermin-Proofing - Out of Compliance; and Floors, Walls & Ceilings - Out of Compliance.

Sportsmans Pub (7348 Broadway, Lemon Grove, CA 91945) - Ordered closed on September 22 for Vermin - Major; Nonfood Contact Surfaces - Out of Compliance; Premises/Vermin-Proofing - Out of Compliance; and Floors, Walls & Ceilings - Out of Compliance.

Mike Hess Brewing Alpine (1347 Tavern Rd, Alpine, CA 91901) - Ordered closed on September 23 for Hot & Cold Water - Major; Vermin - Major; and Floors, Walls & Ceilings - Out of Compliance.

Toasted (12925 El Camino Real, San Diego, CA 92130) - Ordered closed on September 23 for Vermin - Major; and Holding Temperatures - Major.

Silverlake Ramen (7007 Friars Rd, Suite 357A, San Diego, CA 92108) - Ordered closed following a site investigation on September 23 for Vermin - Major; and Toilet Facilities - Out of Compliance.

California Pizza Kitchen #71 (11602 Carmel Mountain Rd, San Diego, CA 92128) - Ordered closed on September 24 for Holding Temperatures - Major; Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use - Out of Compliance; Equipment, Utensils, Linens Storage and Use - Out of Compliance; and Wiping Cloths - Out of Compliance. 

La Valle Coastal Club Banquet (5690 Cancha De Golf, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067) - Ordered closed on September 24 for Holding Temperatures - Major; Vermin - Major; Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use - Out of Compliance; Ventilation and Lighting - Out of Compliance; and Premises, Personal/Cleaning Items, Exclusion Measures - Out of Compliance

Vilis Health Bar (1780 Sunset Cliffs Blvd, San Diego, CA 92107) - Downgraded to a B grade with an 80 score on September 21 for Food Contact Surfaces - Major; Hot & Cold Water - Major; Vermin - Major; Handwashing - Major; Food Handler Training - Minor; Equipment/Utensils - Out of Compliance; and Premises/Garbage/Clean Surroundings - Out of Compliance.

Honeys Bistro & Bakery (632 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA 92024) - Downgraded to a B grade with an 85 score on September 23 for Food Handler Training - Minor; Holding Temperatures - Major; Food Contact Surfaces - Major; Nonfood Contact Surfaces Clean - Out of Compliance; Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use - Out of Compliance; Ventilation and Lighting - Out of Compliance; Thermometers - Out of Compliance; and Floors, Walls, and Ceilings - Out of Compliance.
