San Diego Chefs Salute Tommy Gomes is set to be one of the most delicious culinary events San Diego has ever seen.  Taking place on Sunday, February 23 at Handlery Hotel, the event will feature tastes from the area's best chefs, all coming together to pay tribute to America's Finest Fish Monger - Tommy Gomes of Catalina Offshore Products. While the event was slated to be a grandiose food festival originally offering 500 passes, plans have changed and organizers have scaled down the attendance to make for a more intimate tribute.  The roster has also been altered a bit with some participants dropping out and others added.  We have all the updated details right here for this festival in honor of San Diego's favorite seafood supplier.

Paradise Point's Baleen to Close to Prepare New Concept

Paradise Point's signature waterfront restaurant Baleen will close on Monday, February 17, and reopen in April as a new concept with Chef Amy DiBiase at the helm.  The new restaurant, with a new name soon to be announced, will offer a thoughtfully curated selection of local seafood, seasonal ingredients and craft beverages in a chic, laid-back bayside setting.

Mission Federal ArtWalk Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Inaugural Graffiti Show and New Interactive Elements

In celebration of its 30th year, Mission Federal ArtWalk is excited to introduce the inaugural Off the Wall Urban Show 2014, featuring acclaimed street artists Chor Boogie, Mike “Bam” Tyau, APEX and Codak. These internationally recognized artists will create artwork live on constructed walls from noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 26. ArtWalk patrons can create their own artwork throughout the day with the festival’s newest interactive element, creating colorful mandalas.

Florent Restaurant & Lounge is set to occupy the former Jimmy Love’s space at 672 Fifth Avenue in the Historic Gaslamp Quarter and is anticipated to open sometime this Spring. With its name derived from the historical Florentine architecture of the historic 1874 “Old City Hall” building, the split level venue will celebrate San Diego’s immense culinary and nightlife scene with a creative collaboration by celebrity Chef Rich Sweeney and San Diego’s premiere designer Michael Soriano of Onairos Design.

Stone Brewing Co.'s outspoken CEO Greg Koch has taken to the world wide web to announce that starting on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens in both Escondido and Liberty Station will no longer serve ketchup of any kind.  Although Stone had done away with the polarizing red condiment in commercial form upon opening (making their own, healthy version in house), Mr. Koch has detailed in a quite long-winded and convoluted blog post why Stone will refuse to serve even that any longer.  So why the discrimination? Because ketchup bashing is cool?!

On Monday, January 27, San Diego's culinary industry joined together at Belly Up Tavern to rally as fellow restaurant industry insiders rocked the roof off for a packed house.  Hosted by Sam 'The Cooking Guy' Zien and Josh Koppelman of DiningOutSD, Battle of the Chef Bands is an annual fundraiser where bands made up of restaurant employees and chefs compete battle of the bands style to benefit the domestic violence awareness efforts of the esteemed Center for Community Solutions.
